Marchesini Group acquires Milan-based company M.A.R. spa

A new company joins Marchesini Group. It is M.A.R. S.p.A., a company based in Lainate, Milan, specializing in the manufacture of liquid and powder filling machines in glass and plastic bottles, syringes, carpules and other containers for the pharmaceutical sector. The deal further broadens the range of technologies available to Marchesini Group for packaging products in the Pharma world.

Founded in 1967 by Silvio Pravettoni, M.A.R. S.p.A. distinguished itself by having created, in the late 1970s, one of the world’s first lines for the packaging of pharmaceutical products equipped with a weighing system under sterile conditions. The aseptic nature of the production process-an indispensable requirement when packaging products such as vaccines and anticancer drugs, which are then distributed to pharmacies and hospitals-has remained one of the trademarks of M.A.R. S.p.A., which, in keeping with Marchesini Group tradition, will remain at its current operational location, in defense of business continuity and quality standards of the final product.

With this acquisition, eight companies from the Milan area become part of Marchesini Group’s vast corporate structure in Lombardy, a region second only to Emilia-Romagna – home of the Group’s headquarters – in terms of production presence in the area. Confirmation, this, of how the Lombardy business fabric is an ideal partner for that of the Packaging Valleyemiliana, where the main European pharmaceutical and cosmetics packaging machinery industry is concentrated.

“M.A.R. S.p.A. will maintain its Lainate headquarters, its organizational structure and dedicated staff, with a willingness, however, to grow by hiring technicians and designers,” specified Pietro Cassani, CEO of Marchesini Group, who becomes sole director of M.A.R. as a result of the transaction. “Its range of products dedicated to powder filling and liquid filling, including in aseptic environments, represents an opportunity to enrich the proposal of complete lines offered by Marchesini Group in particular through Corima, our company specialized in technologies that employ robotic solutions capable of ensuring maximum precision in controlled contamination environments. Synergies then extend to Group companies such as CMP Phar.ma for process inspection and such as Lombardy-based SEA Vision, Auteco and Dr. Bonapace for – respectively – the production of vision and data collection systems, process automation and laboratory machines.”

“M.A.R. S.p.A. has a very valuable client portfolio,” added Nicola Di Biase, the company’s former general manager, who has now been appointed attorney. “In this union, I like to call it so, with an important partner such as Marchesini Group, we bring as a dowry both our references and our Lombard know-how, which was particularly appreciated during the pandemic years, when we responded to many requests for technologies for the packaging of anti-Covid vaccines and other biological products.”
